A taxi in Paris

Eighteen thousand taxis circulate in Paris. A driver recounts here what he lived in their midst for almost ten months in 2015. Anecdotes abound, the customers they transported surprise or question, whether it is a cashier of the Eiffel Tower, Jean d'Ormesson, the lady who pees in the taxi, the legionnaire who almost punched him in the face, or the businessman on his way to the wood of Boulogne… Without forgetting a certain Friday November 13, evening of attacks where he was on duty.

This driver, who has known a thousand lives (religious, manager, journalist, etc.) before converting to a taxi, immersed himself in a profession sometimes pointed out, often poorly known, in the midst of change and yet very useful to Ile-de-France residents! But who are the taxis? What do they experience during their eleven hours of daily service? How do they suffer from competition from chauffeur-driven transport vehicles like Über? The author takes the reader inside this profession where rogue drivers and honest men mix, rascals and complainers, but also, for the most part, courteous and serene drivers. The cocasseries often strike the pathetic, and the annoyances spice up everyday life.

And then there is Paris! Lover of the capital, the author makes us discover unusual places, from the Porte de la Muette, from which the first hot air balloon took off, with rooster, duck and sheep, to the statue of Place de Clichy with his unknown polytechnician, from below the Louvre to the bar on rue Mouffetard frequented by Mouna the public entertainer…
