Kids parties don’t need to be all primary colors and Baby Shark (although that never hurts)…Going to take you through a few ideas for creating an environment that’s kid and parent friendly too! Using Ale’s Trick-Or-Treat party as a reference because I think it turned out really well and had the perfect mix of treats and activities for the kids!
1. Plan Activities & Let The Kids Get Creative
The most important tip to having a successful party is keeping the kids busy! Have at least 2-3 simple on-hand activities planned out and set-up as the main focus of the party. Since this was a trick-or-treat party, we got mini candy buckets for the kids to decorate before they went walked the neighborhood! We set-up tons of halloween-themed stickers, coloring books, crayons, and markers for the kids to decorate with and it kept them busy for about an hour and a half before we head out which gave the parents time to catch up, grab a drink and a treat, and just relax a bit!
2. Make Sure The Details are Age-Appropriate
Since we decided to host the party in our home, we knew we had to create a soft and cozy lounge area where the kids could get together and play! So we reached out to our go-to event rentals company, Thrifted Sister Vintage to help out! Some of you may remember a similar set-up we did for Ale’s first birthday party! I really wanted to create a cozy, yet chic space with tons of rugs, pillows, ottomans and most importantly, a very low table since we had younger kids at this party. The height of this table was perfect for them to be able to sit comfortably and do their arts and crafts. All the pillows, rugs, and ottomans created such a comfy and luxe area for them to hang out in and the parents loved it too! We decorated the whole table to be very kids friendly with bowls of goldfish, animal crackers, juice boxes, chocolate milk, and displayed all the arts and crafts to make it easy for them to get to decorating!
3. Finger Food
Planning food and desserts for parties can be stressful and overwhelming! Since our kids party was halloween-themed, we ordered these amazing themed desserts from Crumbles Patisserie. We got an assortment of cake pops, cookies, chocolate-covered Oreos and a pumpkin face cake…for the afterparty ;) For kids parties, it’s definitely best to keep it simple and bite-sized rather than serve foods like sandwiches, pizza, or any other foods that require utensils. Parents are already focused on playing with their kids and keeping them from running around, so they prefer to have quick bite-sized snacks! These charcuterie boards were also a bit hit and are always a great easy and mess-free bite-sized snack to have at any party! And when it comes to a kids party, disposable paper plates and utensils is the only way to go and makes for an easy clean-up. We used some of our leftover paper party goods from Harlow & Grey!
4. Swag Bag
Who doesn’t love a goody bag?! Since it was Halloween, more candy was out of the question! So we decided to put some fun mini arts and crafts kits with crayons and markers from OOLY, and to balance out all the trick-or-treat candy, we added in some healthy snacks from Bitsy’s and YUMI! The parents really appreciated these too!
5. Time Limit
Try to keep the party to 2 1/2 hours… this is plenty of time for younger kids (and their parents lol)! Especially if you have activities set up for the kids, they are due to wipe out after a couple of hours.
