Lady Gaga covered up her tattoos for the Royal Variety Performance

From her 2011 Grammys arrival in a giant egg to that raw meat dress, Lady Gaga has built her reputation on shock.

Though the more we see her nowadays, the more it seems she’s put those days behind her in favour of a more toned-down look.

And at the Royal Variety Performance on Tuesday, not only did she opt for a classic, flowing gown, but covered up her signature tattoos with makeup.

However, she’s far from expressing regret over her inked skin – the star added three more to her collection this year, now totalling 20 on her body.

Wearing an elegant Brandon Maxwell halter-neck frock, she teamed the dress with a classy updo and subtle pink glossy lipstick.

Among those in the audience at the Hammersmith Apollo were Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall as Gaga sang ‘A Million Reasons’ from her latest album, Joanne.

This isn’t the first time the singer has worn Brandon Maxwell – even earlier this week she was seen in a flowing black gown at the British Fashion Awards on Monday, writing on her Instagram that Maxwell “really knows how to make impeccable clothing it’s a joy to wear”.

Though we totally approve of a bit of ink – if anyone should feel she can be herself, it’s Gaga – we did dig her elegant look.
