Debuting mid a season in which afghan dresses have been among the most-hyped pieces and wallpaper prints are already being hailed a main idea (seen at Suno, Karen Walker, Edun, Philosophy,…), Mary Katrantzou should have felt right at home; pun, purely coincidental. An innovator when talking textiles, she hoisted interior images from back issues of Architectural Digest to decorate her standout Spring 2011 showing; this season, she remained a homebody—calling such ornate décor as Faberge eggs inspiration for her surreally-vivid Fall 2011 collection, which was heavy in peplum dresses with sculptural skirting and self-contained, masterfully-mixed prints. Also building on last season, and serving as complementing fixtures in Katrantzou's comfort zone, were her choice shoes; she called on Christian Louboutin to turn out platform booties that touched on a myriad (everything but the kitchen sink?) of trends we saw for spring, including florals, clog-inspired elements (studs) and intricate heels—the shoes' wooden-look "legs" were reminiscent of hand-carved accessories by Alexander McQueen.
