Milan is the indisputable footwear capital of the world, so needless to say, expectations are exceptionally high for footwear of supreme quality, material innovation and overall style. The first day of fashion week here got off to a diverse start, with the runways highlighting everything from Stella Jean’s socks-and-sandal duos to furry footwear creatures at Gucci. But it was a large pompom fur style that took FN’s first shoe of the day. The low-heel ballerina with interlaced strapping had all the trappings of a novelty shoe, save for it being cast in toned-down black leather. Balanced frivolity at its best.
