Here’s the deal. Sometimes when we apply foundation, we get a little carried away in the coverage. And by we, I mostly mean me! I can’t help it. I see things that I want to cover and go back and add another layer to the area, move on, go back and add another layer until I’m happy with the result. But if I were to immediately powder after, the areas where the foundation hasn’t been absorbed in the skin or is in a little, ahem, excess, it’s going to get cakey in those areas. It’s just what happens when you apply powder until of “fresh” foundation. Which is why this trick is a lifesaver! Just take a second to blot the skin after you apply foundation (and cream blush/bronzer) but before you powder, accomplishing two things: 1. it absorbs the excess foundation that would have otherwise gotten “cakey” when you powdered it and 2. it really presses the product into the skin.
